February 12, 2024 - Today, Monday, Amani Al-Azzam, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, conducted a field visit to the Al-Baha Soda and Chlorine Production Company and its factory located in the Shadeel area. Welcoming the ministry's delegation was the Chairman of the company's board of directors, Engineer Mufid Al-Kaoud, along with a specialized team from the company.
During the visit, Al-Azzam was briefed on the energy efficiency measures implemented by the company in the factory. These measures include the introduction of an accounting program to track energy consumption for each production unit, and the utilization of hydrogen produced as a by-product as an alternative fuel in the boiler, resulting in more than a 50% reduction in fuel consumption.
Al-Azzam and the accompanying delegation toured the factory's facilities.
On his part, the Director of Research and Development Department at the company, Engineer Abdullah Al-Kaoud, provided a detailed explanation of the Alkaline Electrolyzer used in water electrolysis, the chlorine drying unit, the hydrogen unit, and the ion-exchanged water production unit. He highlighted the company's efforts towards a future transition to full hydrogen utilization.
In turn, Chairman of Al-Baha's board of directors, Engineer Mufid Al-Kaoud, addressed the challenges facing the company in terms of electricity supply requirements, expressing the company's plans to have its products classified as green, through the installation of renewable energy systems sufficient to meet all consumption needs.
Al-Azzam praised the efforts of the company, founded in 2006, and its factory which won the Green Factory Award in its first edition (2022-2023) for applying the concept of environmental sustainability and operational sustainability through optimal resource utilization. The company employs the latest Bipolar Membrane Cell technology (INEOS Technology), which is considered an environmentally friendly and health-conscious modern technology, ensuring the well-being of workers and the community.
