14 September 2026 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and Yin Mingshan, Chairman of the Board of the Chinese company Getting International Energy Holdings Co. Ltd., signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to conduct the necessary technical studies for the development of a project to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives in Jordan, using renewable energy sources and desalinated water in Aqaba.
Al-Kharabsheh said the MoU follows the Royal visit to the People’s Republic of China and comes within the framework of strengthening economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the green hydrogen sector, which received Royal attention during His Majesty’s visit and meeting with the Chinese President.
He noted that a comprehensive strategic MoU was signed with China’s National Energy Administration, representing an important step towards moving bilateral relations from a general framework of cooperation to more practical avenues. The two sides also discussed a number of areas of cooperation, including the development of green hydrogen projects with the participation of Chinese companies.
During the signing ceremony, Al-Kharabsheh said Jordan is cooperating with a number of Chinese companies specializing in this field, supporting the Kingdom’s efforts to implement its National Green Fuel Strategy and develop green hydrogen as a sustainable source of energy.
He stressed that the studies to be conducted under the MoU will provide a technical and economic assessment of the project, paving the way for a decision on its development and implementation.
Al-Kharabsheh pointed out that strengthening relations with China and opening channels to new markets would enhance the economic viability of green hydrogen and its derivatives projects. He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s efforts to translate the outcomes of studies and memoranda of understanding into tangible projects that contribute to developing the sector and enhancing Jordan’s competitiveness in the green fuel industry.
The MoU includes a study of the feasibility of establishing the project at a site near the Port of Aqaba, as well as an assessment of the project’s integrated value chain, including renewable energy, water desalination, hydrogen and green ammonia production, energy storage, electricity transmission, logistics services and port facilities.
The studies will also assess the project’s technical, environmental and social aspects, estimate the cost of hydrogen production, and determine the land required for its establishment. The Chinese company will prepare a pre-feasibility-level technical study for the project.
