April 28, 2026 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh AL-Kharabsheh, and Director of Public Security, Major General Obaid-Allah Al-Ma'ayta, inaugurated on Tuesday a project to connect off-grid diesel generators with the electricity grid using solar energy systems. This initiative is in line with the Royal directives to promote reliance on renewable energy and improve energy efficiency.
AL-Kharabsheh emphasized that this project is the most prominent of its kind among security institutions in the Kingdom. It was implemented through cooperation between the Ministry and the Public Security Directorate as part of the Rural Electrification Projects. The project encompassed five geographical locations across eleven security facilities, with nine systems and a total capacity of 675 kilowatt-hours peak from solar panels and an advanced battery storage system.
** He stated that the Public Security Directorate is a source of pride for all of Jordan, and this project is part of the Ministry's plan to increase reliance on local resources, aiming to make Jordan one of the leading countries in renewable energy.
For his part, Al-Ma'ayta emphasized that this project, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, has set a model for cooperation between state institutions and contributed to solve the problem of supplying electricity to security centers and stations in remote areas, aside from the old traditional generators that were not adequate.
Al-Ma'ayta added that this project will benefit the public, improve the quality of services provided, and contribute to cost savings, in accordance with the nature of the work of the security centers and stations.
It is worth noting that the project covers the areas of Al-Ashqaf, Al-Karama, Bayir, Shubayka, and Tuba, targeting external patrol centers, civil defense, and desert units, at a total cost estimated at 784,000 dinars. It is being implemented and supervised by a joint committee from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Public Security Directorate, comprising specialized engineering experts.
