Al-Azzam Participates in Panel Discussion on Transboundary Water Cooperation Between Countries in the Yarmouk River Basin

May 5, 2025 – Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, participated today (Monday) in a participatory panel discussion titled "Scenarios and Pathways for Cooperation Between Countries on Transboundary Waters in the Yarmouk River Basin." The session was held on the sidelines of the 7th Arab Water Week Conference, with the participation of the Jordan Valley Authority and in the presence of the Syrian delegation, represented by Eng. Osama Abu Zaid, Syrian Deputy Minister of Energy for Water Affairs, and Eng. Mufleh Al-Alawiyeen, an expert in transboundary water and international cooperation, along with representatives from international donor organizations including GIZ and USAID.

The session featured extensive dialogue among the participants, focusing on the interlinkages between the energy, water, and food sectors. The attendees emphasized the need to initiate joint dialogues among all relevant parties to explore feasible solutions aimed at achieving optimal and effective management of the Yarmouk River Basin,while safeguarding the mutual interests for all stakeholders.

Participants underscored the importance of managing water resources in the Yarmouk River Basin through the development of a unified stance for water source management. They also emphasized  the need to integrate water management with energy and food sectors, and to enhance irrigation water efficiency to maximize its benefits for all involved parties.
