The Oil and Natural Gas Directorate carry out the following tasks :

Definition and determination of policies related to the crude oil sector, its derivatives, natural gas, and planning for their implementation.
Monitoring the implementation of all programs and project-related works in the crude oil sector, its derivatives, and natural gas. Overseeing these projects, either directly, through the private sector, or in collaboration with it.
Participating in the preparation of legislative frameworks related to the regulation of the supply of petroleum products and natural gas.
Participating in the development of national specifications for petroleum derivatives, as well as facilities in the supply sector. This includes methods of transportation, distribution, storage, and the general safety conditions related to them. Monitoring the implementation in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Taking the necessary measures to ensure the security of crude oil, petroleum products, and natural gas supplies for the Kingdom and to secure the Kingdom's needs for crude oil, petroleum products, and natural gas. Also, taking steps to provide additional sources of natural gas to meet the needs of the electricity sector, industries, and distribution in cities.
Take the necessary measures to ensure the continuation of the use of natural gas for the generation of electric power and prepare the necessary plans to develop means of handling natural gas.
Prepare the necessary studies and plans to encourage investment and development in the infrastructure of the crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas sector, in order to obtain efficient services in the supply chain of crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas.
Managing and monitoring natural gas pipeline projects in the Kingdom and fulfilling the regulatory role assigned to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as stipulated in the licensing agreement.
Follow up the performance of oil marketing companies according to the licenses granted to them.
Follow up the management and circulation of the government-owned strategic stock and determine the operational and strategic stock of crude oil and petroleum products necessary for the Kingdom, according to international best practices, and take the necessary measures to provide it.
Determine the prices of petroleum products, commissions and the licensed tariff, as well as determining the prices for natural gas sold to industries and natural gas produced from the Risha gas field, on a monthly basis.
Participate in the preparation of the policy for pricing petroleum products and natural gas sold to industries and contribute to the implementation procedures for the pricing process.
Take the necessary measures to implement the emergency plan for the supply chain of petroleum products and the procedures for setting up the Ministry's emergency operations rooms to work on securing petroleum products for citizens and in coordination with the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company and marketing companies in emergency cases, as stipulated in the Law of Oil Derivatives
