August 2, 2025 – Aqaba Port received the floating regasification unit Energius Force on Friday, in preparation for its connection to the Arab Gas Pipeline and its entry into service starting Tuesday, August 5, to begin the regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) announced in a press release today that this step comes in line with the Ministry’s vision to ensure sustainable energy supply security, meet the Kingdom’s energy needs, diversify natural gas sources, and fulfill local market demands—thereby enhancing the flexibility of operational plans.
Dr. Sufian Al-Batainah, Director General of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), stated that NEPCO is the main beneficiary of the LNG, which is used to operate power generation plants. This initiative is part of NEPCO’s strategic plan to improve the efficiency of the national electricity system and ensure energy supply security, especially during peak demand and emergencies.
He explained that the reception of Energius Force is part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between Jordan and Egypt in January 2024. The agreement includes leveraging Egypt’s LNG infrastructure—such as floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs)—to secure gas supplies for Jordan until the end of 2026, pending the completion of the new gas port project in Aqaba.
The agreement allocates Jordan a daily capacity of 350 million cubic feet of natural gas, with guaranteed priority access and flexible technical and commercial terms. This allows gas usage without incurring fixed costs when not needed, contributing to improved system efficiency and reduced expenses.
This initiative reflects the strong and ongoing energy cooperation between Egypt and Jordan and highlights the level of regional integration and mutual benefit from the shared infrastructure between the two countries, especially in light of global conditions that call for flexible energy readiness.
According to the statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the continued development of Jordan’s gas infrastructure and the enhancement of Arab energy cooperation to ensure national energy security and meet the needs of citizens and vital sectors in the Kingdom—particularly electricity and industry—during peak consumption periods and emergencies.
